Bahasa Indonesia: Habitat Gajah Sumatera (Elephas maximus sumatranus) yang terbesar berada di Pusat Latihan Gajah (PLG) Way Kambas, Kabupaten Lampung Timur, Lampung, yang memiliki luas 125 ribu hektare. Gajah-gajah liar ini dilatih agar dapat dijadikan sebagai gajah tunggang, atraksi, angkutan kayu dan bajak sawah. Pada pusat latihan gajah ini, dapat disaksikan pula pelatih mendidik dan melatih gajah liar, selain menyaksikan atraksi gajah main bola, menari, berjabat tangan, hormat, mengalungkan bunga, tarik tambang, berenang dan masih banyak atraksi lainnya.

Pusat latihan gajah ini didirikan pada tahun 1985. Sampai saat ini telah berhasil mendidik dan melatih gajah sekitar 300an ekor. Gajah-gajah di taman nasional ini tidak berada dalam kehidupan liar yang sebenarnya karena mereka semua berada dalam program pelatihan gajah. Pusat pelatihan ini sendiri didirikan untuk mengatasi masalah gajah liar yang kehidupannya terdesak karena habitatnya digunakan untuk ladang pertanian.

Meskipun berbadan besar, gajah adalah hewan perenang yang handal. Mereka dapat berenang selama 6 jam dan menempuh jarak hingga 50 km. Tengkorak gajah yang besar dan kuat, berisi otak yang sangat cerdas. Oleh karena itu, gajah mempunyai ingatan yang sangat baik dan jarang melupakan perintah - perintah yang telah diajarkan. Seekor gajah mampu mengingat 25 perintah atau aba - aba dan mampu membuat alat untuk digunakan sendiri, sebagai contoh, gajah akan mematahkan tonggak kayu untuk menggaruk punggungnya.

The elephants in this national park are not in the real wild life because they are all in the elephant training program. The training center itself was established to address the problem of wild elephants whose lives are pressed because their habitat is used for agricultural fields.

Despite being large, elephants are good swimmers. They can swim for 6 hours and cover distances of up to 50 km. Big and strong elephant skulls, which contain very intelligent brains. Therefore, elephants have a very good memory and rarely forget the commands that have been taught. An elephant is able to remember 25 commands or command and is able to make tools for its own use, for example, an elephant will break a wooden post to scratch its back.
