Caption[edit]

Check Signing Machine. Washington, D.C.; May 25, 1936. G. F. Allen, chief disbursing officer of the treasury department, examines his signature as it is stamped onto bonus checks by a machine turning out 15,000 signatures an hour. The checks are to make up of amounts in the bonus payments. Bonds, in the denomination of $50, make up the bulk of the payment, but almost in every instance a check is necessary to bring the sum of the correct total. Distribution of the bonus payments will start June 15 by registered mail.
