Summary[edit]

Description
English: Furdales, Thorngumbald, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Fields by the overflowing Furdales Drain, near the Villa Lane junction on the A1033 between Hedon and Thorngumbald. The nearby Burstwick Drain and smaller drains such as Furdales have proved unable to cope with the huge volume of water being channelled south and west towards the River Humber after recent heavy rains. The drains overflowed onto the surrounding farmland creating a shallow lake with very few patches of dry land in between, stretching for almost three kilometres from the greenhouses near Hall Bridge in Burstwick to here on the A1033, which was closed for some time. When this photograph was taken the water in many places had already receded by a foot or more, thanks largely to a concerted effort by the fire brigade.
