Español: Escudo ornamentado con todas las divisas de Carlos I, rey de España, con las armas de Flandes y el Tirol en escusón (1518-1520). Con el águila borgoñona y el león de España.
El mote, pronto no se escribió en francés sino en la forma PLUS ULTRA. MENÉNDEZ PIDAL

Desde 1516 hasta 1518 (muerte de su abuelo Maximiliano) repone en su lugar los cuarteles de Aragón y Aragón-Sicilia, pero Granada pasa a la punta del escudo total. Sobre los cuarteles austríacos, continúa Flandes solo. En estos dos detalles se diferencias sus armas del cuartelado que habían traído sus padres. Menéndez-Pidal De Navascués, Faustino; El escudo
Se distinguen en dos detalles; las armas de Granada se disponen en la punta del escudo total, no en los cuarteles de los reyes católicos, y el escudete superpuesto contiene Flandes solo, sin Tirol. [1]
