Summary[edit]

Description
English: Frozen spoil, Newbridge ball clay quarry The spoil is predominantly lignite. It looks and feels like fine shale, soft underfoot where not frozen. In the Bovey Basin layers of lignite occur between the layers of clay and other minerals. In the past, lignite was used as a fuel to a minor extent. Here, a spoil heap appears to be in the course of formation, backfilling over part of the quarry, and looking set to overtop natural ground level. In the distance is Dartmoor, with Haytor, centre.
