Description

English: From left, Deputy Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal recognize U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ty Carter during Carters Hall of Heroes induction ceremony Aug. 27, 2013, at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. President Barack Obama presented Carter with the Medal of Honor a day earlier during a ceremony at the White House. Carter was recognized for his actions during the Battle of Kamdesh at Combat Outpost Keating, Nuristan province, Afghanistan, Oct. 3, 2009. He was a cavalry scout with Bravo Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at the time of the battle.
