Description

Das am 6. August 1797 entstandene Aquarell ist das letzte in einer Reihe von Darstellungen von Brunnenmonumenten in der Umgebung von Kopenhagen (vgl. Kat. 1916-147), die von ihrer Konzeption her eher topographisch anzusehen sind, doch reflektieren sie auch den von Christian Hirschfeld 1779 in seiner „Theorie der Gartenkunst“ beschriebenen, in Dänemark damals beliebten Gartentyp.

Die topographische Bestimmung des Brunnendenkmals ist Börsch-Supan zu verdanken, der das Monument als Quelle im Park des Schlosses Frederiksdahl nordwestlich von Kopenhagen identifizierte.
