Français : Monnaie de Louis XIV pour le Canada, 5 sols (1/12e d'écu), 1670, argent, diamètre 22 mm, poids 2,29 g. Avers : Buste juvénile lauré du roi, les cheveux longs retombant sur la poitrine. Légende commençant à 8 heures, LVD XIIII D.G. FR ET NAV REX. Marque privée au-dessus de la tête, soleil rayonnant. Revers : Écu de France couronné à trois fleurs de lys. Légende commençant à 12 heures GLORIAM • REGNI • TVI • DICENT • 1670. Marque d’atelier sous la pointe de l’écu, "A" pour Paris. Marque privée au-dessus de la pointe de la couronne, tour du château. Bord uni. Cette monnaie se distingue du même type frappé en France de 1658 à 1670 par la légende du revers qui est différente. Collection des Musées Victoria, Melbourne, Victoria, Australie.
English: Coin of Louis XIV for Canada, 5 sols (1/12th of an écu), 1670, silver, diameter 22mm, weight 2.29g. Obverse: Laureate youthful bust of the king, long hair falling over the chest. Legend starting at 8 o'clock, LVD XIIII D.G. FR ET NAV REX. Privy mark above head, radiant sun. Reverse: Crowned French shield with three fleur-de-lis. Legend starting at 12 o'clock GLORIAM • REGNI • TVI • DICENT • 1670. Mint mark below the tip of the shield, "A" for Paris. Privy mark above the tip of the crown, castle tower. Plain edge. This coin is distinguished from the same type struck in France from 1658 to 1670 by the legend on the reverse, which is different.
