Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Artillerymen and horses resting, Western Front, during World War I. A roadside scene of two soldiers and a team of four horses. One man, sitting on one of the horses and drinking a bowl of soup, can be identified by his cap badge as belonging to the Royal Artillery. The second man is probably part of the same team as he is also wearing spurs, suggesting he is a horseman.

The horses in this team have breast collars, so they would normally have been harnessed to some form of cart. As the soldiers are artillerymen it is probable that these horses normally pulled a gun-limber.
[Original reads: 'Free soup is very acceptable'.]
