Federico returns, reads thenote, and wrongfully concludes that shehas fled with Worms. ACT II SCENE—A Cellar in KonigsbergIn this underground retreat Worms isagain plotting against Napoleon. A meetingof the Council is in progress, when Federicoappears and demands that Worms shallfight with him to the death, but Worms,kneeling, asks Federico to kill him. Federicoreplies with a violent blow in the face, atwhich Worms decides to fight him, andpreparations for the duel are begun.
