Description
Original caption, obtained from the Jackie Martin Papers, Syracuse University: "Thru the pressure and heat, a degree of impregnation has taken place which gives the old record strength and resiliency. Under the press the cellullose-acetate melted and has been absorbed into the pores of the paper base. The heat and pressure is controlled so as not to have the foil completely penetrate the paper from surface to surface...for this would make the document transparent, a condition not desired in this instance. Because the sheets of steel have been dulled by sand-blast treatment, the finish on the document, when removed from the press is dull and not shiny..therefore easy to read. Now the formerly dirty, completely torn in half, frayed and brittle document is back, all in one piece..and it is able to stand alone. Miss Benedict, technologist in charge of the Flattening and Lamination section looks over the reviving job she has accomplished." Photograph by Jackie Martin, International News Photos.
