Manuscript letter

Archives Number: 1011/002.001-014#017

Cambridge.
Monday evening.
Dearest –
I send your shirts & a note to Mary both of which I trust will reach you in time. I cannot believe you are really going away from us again, nor do I wish to until I hear of you happier on the other side than you can be alas! on this. I am very thankful for this visit & therefore will not quarrel with it in any way - & I think it must have given you not a little satisfaction to have a peep at my happy home – to see that all I have attempted to write is true, but [p. 2] no – you cannot see or know the extent of my happiness. May you before many years know it through your own, & like me forget the past wholly in the present & future.
God bless you, dearest, with the rich blessing of a mind & heart at ease – with health & every good thing –
Good bye, & bon voyage!
Yr ever loving
Fannikin.
Em sends her kindest farewell wishes & would have come down last night had she supposed you were to go to town to remain today.
