Manuscript letter

Archives Number: 1011/002.001-018#030

Dear Sam,
Our little Fanny has been very ill since you left & yesterday afternoon her happy life ceased to be ours- .
Without pain she passed into the happier one of God.
We ardently wished to have you with us today but we had not time [p. 2] to send for you.
Dr. Francis was chosen.
She sleeps in flowers at Mt Auburn & we try to still the hunger of our hearts. If you could have seen her angelic beauty & smile of heavenly joy last night you would have said – “A smile of God thou art.” I can write no more now dear Sam. Pray for us to bear this sorrow – We so wished you could [p. 3] have been here & first wrote by telegraph hoping you might, but found there was none.
With Henrys love
the ever affte
Fanny
