Dear Matilda,
Thinking you seemed inclined the other day for lodging in our vicinity, or thus construing your words to suit my own wishes, I went this afternoon to enquire at two houses very pleasantly situated about a mile & a half from us. The nearest has a fine view down to the river Charles, & is just behind Mt. Auburn; the house itself is shady with fruit-trees & the people seem obliging. It is [p. 2] I think pleasanter than the other which is a double house. The latter had a parlour & dining room & three bed-rooms & the price per week was $7.00 for a gentleman 6.00 for a lady & 3 for children, under which term I suppose your boys could be included.
The one I first spoke of, & to which we most incline, has a parlor & 3 bed rooms & the terms rather less.
If you feel disposed to look at these places, & will drive over to us any afternoon but or morning, but Saturday or Monday next, when Charley has his birthday fête [p. 3] to which I hope Julia Howe will bring you, I shall be delighted to explore them with you. I know of no others nearer us unless in the town of Cambridge, which I suppose would be hardly rural enough, and it is now so late in the season that I marvel we found even these disengaged.
With kind regards to Mrs Howe & Mrs Crawford
ever affly yrs
Fanny Longfellow.
