Saturday mn’g –
Dearest Em,
I send back your cloak which you may need, & part of Wms needle-book which I found on the study floor. I presume you have the other half.
I had a sad & solitary Thanksgiving evening & a sleepless night, with poor Dash howling in my ears, & cannot tell you how grateful I was & am for the pleasant one, des [p. 2] pite the storm & Henrys absence, which your presence gave me. It is so long since we have had such a nice, quiet chat together of any length -!
I trust you are none the worse for the rough roads & hard carriage, & will have time to get every thing in order before the eventful day – I should have been in today to see how you were, but was lazy in rising & the clouds looked so threatening I gave it up.
[p. 3] Henry arrived safely yesterday noon. He did not reach Portland until 10 in the evening, on account of the storm & the crowd of people. In the cars was a little boy of 9 or 10 taking care of two little sisters 3 & 4 years old – comforting them through the tedious journey so kindly. He & the other passengers made up quite a purse for them –
I have two babies on my hands while I write so excuse the scrawly state of the above –
Yrs ever lovingly
Fanny L
