Manuscript letter

Brookline. Friday mng.
Dearest Papa,
I send you Mary’s huge budget which may not interest you very much as it is chiefly about things & people I saw, & therefore cared to hear about, but I tho’t you would be disappointed not to see it. Please return it to us immely because Tom has not seen it as Sam Austin only brought it me last night.
She is evidently better & I think will go on well having fairly escaped from London.
Many thanks for your note. I am rejoiced there is a chance of a termination [p. 2] of your labours in spite of Tyler’s obstinate checks. “Let a beggar on horseback” &c I think it right to leave this nice place & society on Monday as Harriet & Tom both seem to desire my presence at Nahant. We shall hope for a sight of you at least by the middle of August if things are not desperately perverse. Why do’nt they botch up the Boundary in any fashion rather than leave it out at elbows so long? Sam A is on the point of going into town so I have only time to say
Good bye & God bless you.
Yr loving Fannikin.
[p. 3] Will you please frank this letter to Dr Lieber –
ADDRESSED: HON N. APPLETON
ENDORSED: FANNY / JULY 22.
