Manuscript letter

Archives Number: 1011/002.001-014#008

Dear Sumner,
I trouble you with this letter to Greene, thinking you may be able to add any further direction, if it is necessary, to secure its safe arrival into his hands. As you are probably writing a letter to Dr Howe they may go in company – or, if not, your knowledge of the ‘law of nations’ may help you to comprehend how my letter can be filtered through England to the Continent.
We dined the North American savages yesterday. (as Fel- [p. 2] ton calls them), - I mean Bowen, the Dean Felton & Mr Norton, as contributors, & wished our table had been as capacious as our desires that you & Hillard might have joined us. When does the latter intend to perform his promise of an impromptu appearance at our table? I hope it may be on some Carnival day – that is when solid joints smoke on the board, for a walk of three miles in this wintry-Spring atmosphere would entitle him to something better than a revenant dinner.
Sarah Cleveland has arrived at the Nortons & we go this evening to see them once [p. 3] more together.
With my love to Mary,
ever yrs
Fanny Longfellow.
