Dear Annie,
I wish very much you could manage domestic matters so that you might come here to enjoy us & the roses! If it were only for a few days it would do you good to breathe this perfumed air - & rejoice us all, my sister included, to have you with us to share our drives & talks. I have been hoping to hear you were coming ever since I wrote you, thinking you were valourous enough to [p. 2] come alone if no opportunity offered. Pray come for the 4th, for you would enjoy the pretty floral processions, but as much sooner [crossed out: before] as you will, [crossed out: before] the rose leaves are scattered to the winds, or devoured by the merciless rose bugs whose name this year is Legion –
My six children are as happy as bees, swarming about the garden, & my sister is gaining in this pure, delicious air.
We pass today at Lynn [p. 3] beach with my cousin Mrs Lawrence so I am hurried to a close –
Hoping soon to see you with much love to all
ever affly thine
Fanny E.L.
