Notes The Cognacq-Jay sheet is a preparatory study for the mermaid leaning on a dolphin which appears, inverted, to the left of the "Neptune and Amymone" tapestry (woven at the Beauvais factory from 1749) in large-scale copies (Berlin, Charlottenburg Palace; Paris, Petit Palais, City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts). In the smaller format copies, a wide band being removed on the left, the mermaid with the dolphin disappears. from the "Neptune and Amymone" tapestry. In this sketch we find, on the right and in the same direction, the silhouette of the mermaid with the dolphin from the Cognacq-Jay museum [1]
