Abe-enge James Akurugu is a dedicated Ghanaian peace advocate, educator, and community developer. Born in Sumbrungu, Upper East Region of Ghana, James has spent his life serving his community and promoting peace and understanding.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION James was born in Sumbrungu and began his high school education at Bolgatanga Secondary School (BigBoss). He later attended the University of Cape Coast for his tertiary education.

CAREER James started his teaching career at his alma mater, Bolgatanga Secondary School, where he taught for two years. He then returned to his community, Sumbrungu Kunkua, where he organized night classes for elderly individuals and partnered with NGOs to provide books and a comfortable learning environment for students.

Peace Advocacy and Voluntary Organizers Association (PAVOA)

In 1994, James founded PAVOA, a local NGO dedicated to peace advocacy and voluntary organizing. PAVOA utilizes traditional songs, drama, talks, and lectures as part of their peace initiative programs. They also use traditional music, dance, and drumming as platforms for recruitment and advocacy. Under James' leadership, PAVOA has reached over 100 villages in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region of Ghana through their performances and outreach efforts. www.pavoagh.org

CURRENT WORK James is currently working at the Ghana Revenue Authority, where he continues to serve his country and community.

LEGACY

Abe-enge James Akurugu's dedication to peace, education, and community development has made a significant impact in the Upper East Region of Ghana. His work with PAVOA has promoted understanding and peaceful coexistence among communities, and his teaching and community development efforts have inspired countless individuals.
