Description
English: "The city grew swiftly around Grand Central Depot, seen in this 1888 view looking west along 42nd Street. In the 30 years from 1871 to 1901, electricity, telephones, and high-rise buildings transformed midtown, and New York’s population more than doubled." From the New York Transit Museum, Lonto/Watson Collection.
