Summary

[edit]
Description The three-story 19th-century red brick and terra-cotta schoolhouse on South Portland Avenue between Hanson Place and Fulton Street in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City has been combined with a townhouse at 81 Hanson Place with a rebuilt modern facade (to the left on this image) to make a single-family residence with over 10,500 square feet of living space. The dates at the top of the schoolhouse are 1881 (at the south end of the building) and 1892 (on the north end). The school was also used as a Masonic Lodge. The re-design of the combined house was completed in 2003 for artist David Salle. (Sources: NYT, Town and Wired New York)
