Summary[edit]
DescriptionFormer Amherst Bowling Center, Buffalo, New York - 20201012.jpg |
English: The former Amherst Bowling Center, 47 East Amherst Street at Holden Street, Buffalo, New York, October 2020. Built in 1946 as one of the first buildings on this block of Amherst Street that had only recently been extended eastward through the former site of the Bennett limestone quarry, this is a relatively late example of the Streamline Moderne style of architecture, with stylistic tropes such as sleek horizontal lines, banded windows, and decorative trim in lustrous chrome well-represented. The bowling alley was in operation until 2004 and has been vacant since; as of the date of the photograph, plans were to demolish the building to make way for affordable apartments and a grocery store. |
