Selon le choix de la longueur k par rapport aux longueurs ℓ, on peut placer l’épaisseur maximale où on le désire, ceci bien qu’un placement au tiers de la longueur du corps soit le plus souvent prescrit.
S. F. Hoerner est une référence planétaire en matière de Mécanique des Fluides, en particulier pour son ouvrage Fluid-dynamic drag : Theoretical, experimental and statistical information, 1992 (traduit en français sous le titre "Résistance à l'avancement dans les fluides").
Le corps dessiné en bleu possède donc un avant elliptique et un arrière cosinusoïdal.
