In cool, often narrow, moist canyon bottoms and their lower slopes, usually on northand west exposures; also ih narrow gulches and at heads of ravines. Iorous, rocky, gravelly, and sandy soils ; where best growthoccurs, soil Is moist, even in summer, from contiguo\is stream bed.
