Summary[edit]
DescriptionFlying Yankee matchbook ad.JPG |
English: Matchbook ad for the Boston and Maine Railroad streamliner Flying Yankee and for the concession service The Armstrong Company. Armstrong had an arrangement similar to that of Fred Harvey and the Santa Fe Railroad in that it operated concessions and served food in some of the railroad stations on the routes of the B & M as Fred Harvey did on the A T & S F railroad routes. It's possible to see some combination ads like this with Fred Harvey and A T & S F. |
Date | The service for the streamlined version of the train shown on the matchbook began in 1935. During World War II, the need for service doubled and this version of the train was no longer operated as the Flying Yankee. It stopped covering this route during that time, being re-named and put into service on a different route which wasn't so highly traveled. This particular train left this route circa 1942. |
