tt is discovered alone, musing on the unhappyplight of his foster brother, who, since his rejection by Harriet,is inconsolable. Nancy enters, and she and Plunfcett soon come to an un-derstanding. They decide to present Lionels ring to theQueen, hoping thus to clear up the mystery of his birth. SCENE II—A Representation of the Richmond FairLionels ring has been shown to the Queen, who discoversthat the young man is really the son of the banished Earl ofDerby. However, he refuses to accept his rightful rank andcontinues to brood over the insult offered him in the forest.As a last resort a complete reproduction of the Fair Sceneof Act II is arranged, with booths and the crowd of servantsall represented. Harriet, Nancy and Plun^ett are dressed inthe costumes worn at their first meeting. Lionel is led in by Plun^ett, and when he sees Harriet inthe dress of a servant, the cloud seems to pass from hismind and he embraces her tenderly. The two couplespledge their troth and all ends happily.
