Summary[edit]

This flag image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Flag of The Islamic State of Iraq.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Attention: In the Federal Republic of Germany, the Organisation "Islamic State" has been banned by the Ministry of the Interior. The usage of this image for non-educational purposes is forbidden in Germany. For more information see archive copy at the Wayback Machine Deutsch
Für weitere Informationen siehe archive copy at the Wayback Machine Deutsch

This flag is fictitious, proposed, or locally used unofficially. It has not been adopted in an official capacity, and although it may be named as if it was an official flag of a geographical or other entity and have some visual elements that are similar to official logos or flags of that entity, it does not have any official recognition. A flag of this type should not be added to any articles or pages unless it is officially proposed by a government agency, covered by the media, or sees notable local use.
Description
English: supposed flag of the "Islamic State of Iraq".

The Arabic text is a google translation of "Islamic State of Iraq" (using the preposition "min" instead of "fi" for "of"), with the word "Iraq" broken up into two lines to fit into the grey circle, also the leading alif was probably lost in copy-paste into the graphics program) Supposedly based on a photograph formerly hosted at http://www.homelandsecurityus.net/v1.jpg (now a dead link) The uploader provided the following "Description of the photograph:"

U.S. soldier holds up the flag of The Islamic State of Iraq found in a Sunni village in Diyala province. The Islamic State of Iraq is an al Qaeda front group masquerading as a "shadow government". The above photo was posted at an internet forum by a jihadi as evidence of al Qaeda's future victory in Iraq.

since the same caption is found verbatim e.g. here showing a photograph with just the regular jihadist flag with the shahada, this image is presumably the result of some kind of weird misunderstanding.
