Summary[edit]

Description
English: Brisé fan designed as a dance card for a ball. English, 1863. Card leaves, printed, with original pencil, attached with gilt thread. Originally trimmed with pink marabou feathers, all that remains of this fan are its card ends. These were used by its female owner to record the names of the 13 gentlemen with whom she danced at a ball held at Hornby Castle, Lancashire, on 27 November 1863. The feathers may have been torn during use, or have suffered pest damage - feathers are particularly susceptible to insect activity. Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, England.
