The South Metropolitan Sewerage District includes the cities ofNewton, Quincj and Waltham, and the towns of Brookline, Miltonand Watertown, and parts of the city of Boston (including the formertown of Hyde Park) and the town of Dedham, — a total of 4 citiesand 4 towns. This district has an area of 100.87 square miles, withan estimated population as of December 31, 1911, of 370,580.According to the estimates made 65.3 per cent, of this population,or 241,865, contribute sewage to the South Metropolitan System.The total expenditures for construction of the South MetropolitanSewerage Works have amounted to $8,813,232.53.
