English: https://www.archives.saltresearch.org/R/-?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=872102&silo_library=GEN01 “İstanbul yangınları bu şehrin tarihinde büyük bir yer almış ve gerek içtimâi bünyesinde, gerek sanat hayatında büyük tesirleri görülmüştür. (...) Yetmiş sene evvel, Beyoğlu’ndaki bir yangın, Hocapaşa yangınını da bastırmış, bilhassa fecaat cihetinden ondan çok ileriye gitmişti. Zira, bu yangın birçok insanın ölümüne sebebiyet veren bir âfet olmuştu. Yenişehir’den çıkan yangın Tarlabaşı’nı, Taksim’i sarmış ve Galatasaray’a kadar olan bütün Beyoğlu Caddesi boyunca uzanmıştı. Yanan binalar arasında İngiliz Sefarethanesi, Naum Tiyatrosu, Ermeni Patrikhane ve hastanesi de vardı. Bu yangında 111 kişi ölmüş, 3449 bina yanmıştı.” |
