Title
English: Fireboat "Duwamish" in Elliott Bay, ca. 1925
Description
English:

The Seattle Fire Department's first two fireboats were the "Snoqualmie" and the "Duwamish." The "Duwamish" was launched in 1909 at Richmond Beach, north of Seattle. The two vessels fought the huge 1914 blaze at the Grand Trunk Pacific pier and many other waterfront fires. This photo, possibly taken in the 1920s, shows the fireboat "Duwamish" in Elliott Bay. The vessel served for over fifty years before being retired from active service. The "Duwamish" was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989, and is now permanently moored at the Historic Ships Wharf near the Museum of History & Industry at South Lake Union Park.
