Summary
[edit]DescriptionFire brigade in attendance at fire after accident - geograph.org.uk - 530540.jpg |
English: Fire brigade in attendance at fire after accident Having finally given up hope on the weather improving sufficiently to make a proper onslaught on the remaining SP squares, we were making our way along this quiet back lane from Grendon to Castle Ashby when we came upon a head-on collision between a van and a car. The passenger in the car had been thrown into the road, and was rolling around, clearly suffering from internal injuries. The two drivers were walking wounded; the car driver was on the phone to the emergency services but had no clue where we were. My GPS proved its worth by supplying a 10-figure grid reference to the control room and an ambulance was soon on the scene.
Shortly before the van, which was by then quite heavily on fire, would have exploded the fire brigade turned up. This is the scene shortly thereafter; the fire can be seen reflected in the road under the fire engine. The car in the left of the picture is ours; we'd have preferred to have moved it further away from the fire, but two of the casualties were sitting in it for a considerable period of time, and after that we were blocked in. |
