c/n 920. Swedish Air Force serial Fv2542. Only four CR42 fighters are known to exist. With three of them firmly residing in the national museums of the UK, Sweden and Italy, this fourth machine is something very special because she is destined to fly. Recovered from a crash site in Sweden in 1983, she has undergone a long and complex restoration which started in Venegono, Italy, before moving to Duxford and more recently at nearby Audley End. She has now returned to Duxford and is seen while being reassembled. The black covering wrap offers protection from dust and damage as well as disguising the finished paint scheme in advance of an official unveiling. 4 days before the annual Flying Legends Airshow, work is well underway and a static appearance at the weekend looks likely. As a Fighter Collection aeroplane, it is not surprising to find her in the collection home of Hangar 2 at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK. 10th July 2018. |
