| Description |
English: Fan House, Ayton Mine The Ayton Ironstone Mine entrance was actually at the top of the self acting incline, a quarter of a mile long and 1 in 4 at its steepest. This building dates from 1919 when an electric fan was installed, the first mine in the Cleveland area to be electrified. Because of its proximity to Capt. Cooks Monument the mine became known locally as the Monument Mine. |
