Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Faithful servant's grave Inscribed with the name of Mary Crampton, a native of Lancashire, who died in 1805, aged 61, in the 28th year of her service to the family of John Aikin MD "who placed this memorial of her worth and his gratitude."

John Aikin (1747-1820)was the brother of Anna Letitia Barbauld, buried nearby, and he too epitomized the dissenting spirit of the time. Trained as a physician, he made contributions to not only the cause of religious freedom but the fields of botany, geography, song-writing and poetry, literary criticism, biography, medical studies, prison reform, and education; he also served as editor of the liberal Monthly Magazine from its inception in 1796 to 1807.

[Possibly he is also buried in this graveyard?]
