Fachada y Puerta de la Coronería En el hastial del brazo norte del crucero, a la altura de la calle Fernán González pero en un nivel varios metros más elevado que el del suelo del templo, se abre la portada de la Coronería, o Puerta de los Apóstoles, que desde el interior de la Catedral se comunica con la nave mediante la Escalera Dorada de Diego de Siloé. Es obra realizada entre 1250 y 1257 por artistas locales pertenecientes al círculo del maestro Enrique, denominado a veces maestro de la Coronería. Plenamente gótica, parte de los temas escultóricos prolongan sin embargo la tradición románica. Además, el entorno de la puerta fue reformado en el XVIII, en 1786, con un arco de medio punto de grandes dovelas y de estilo barroco, el cual sustituyó un parteluz gótico en el que estaría representada la figura de Dios Padre. Al poco de acometer la remodelación, el cabildo decidió clausurar esta puerta por el excesivo y molesto tránsito de vecinos que descendían hacia la parte baja de la ciudad con bastimentos y utensilios. Terminó así otro trasiego de gentes, este piadoso, ya que por la Coronería accedían a la Catedral los peregrinoso que seguían el Camino de Santiago. |
