Description

Lackland AFB in Texas is part of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). Everyone joining the Air Force will receive his of her basic military training here. The base has an impressive collection of vintage aircraft. Lackland has no runway, but adjacent Kelly AFB has.

Ten F-105D Thunderchiefs were in use for security personnel when I took this photo in February 1987. They were flown to Kelly AFB when their unit (466th TFS, Hill AFB) transitioned to F-16s in June 1983.
