Summary[edit]

Description

While scrolling through Raakh (a favorite novel by Tarar Sahab), you come across a cursory reference of some real Princess residing in Model Town Lahore back in 1950s. The event does not cause an interruption to the flow of the story and you go on. Chapters later, while winding up the tale, there is this reference of some grave in Gulberg Christian Graveyard, Lahore where the cenotaph is in three languages, one of which is Persian… why Persian? We are told, it was the official language in Maharaja Ranjeet Singh’s Court…. What’s so special about this cenotaph? Here comes the twist; it belongs to one Princess Bamba Sutherland, the real granddaughter of Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Lahore!!!! It was a hazy afternoon in Lahore, once me and Ladla took a stroll to visit the Christian Graveyard Gulberg, Lahore. We were led to the place and there existed in reality, the grave, the cenotaph and the detail in English, Urdu and Persian inscribed into the stone replicating the account depicted in the pages of Raakh. Princess Bamba Sutherland was the eldest daughter of Maharaja Duleep Singh and the last heir in the bloodline of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Further details can be referenced. Queen Vicotria’s Maharaja by Michael Alexander & Sushila Anand is a recommended read
