Description

ARC10377/AR62 ALASKA

Exercise Great Bear Back-lighted parachute (cargo) right after the landing in the drop zone. This operation took place on 18 Feb 1962 in the area of Healy Lake, Alaska. The cargo was dropped after an element of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (airborne), made an assault jump against the aggressor forces during Exercise Great Bear. 18 Feb 62 SFC A. S. Exercise Great Bear (1961-62) was a large-scale Cold War-era joint operational force-on-force military winter maneuver in Alaska, and was significant because it marked the first time in 13 years that Canadian troops had maneuvered in Alaska. It incorporated an interoperability concept with integrated conventional and Special Forces components in an austere environment.
