Summary[edit]

Description
English: The picture shows the recovery of experimental data using Surprisal Analysis. Figure legend: Surprisal analysisof the level of expression of 15,000 genes transcripts as measured by a microarray at an early time, E, after infection. Shown as a scatter plot are results using equation (l) vs. the observed data on a logarithmic scale. The data spans almost four orders of magnitude. α=0 is the balanced state. α=1 is the most dominant constraint. It correlates with turning off cell death as is to be expected for the onset of cancer. This single constraint, black dots, already suffices to account for the measured trends in the data. α=2 is the second most important constraint and correlates with increased transcription of the metabolic and cell cycle genes. The two constraints, α=1 and 2, red dots, provide a tight fit that can be shown to be within the noise level of the data. Analysis by F. Remacle and N. Kravchenko – Balasha [7] using data from the laboratory of Alexander Levitski.
