Summary[edit]

Description
English: A room in the Klitsche De La Grange Museum which exhibits the stages of Alunite extraction activities through the different extraction methods, with models, tools and reconstructions, and the contemporary birth of the mining village of Allumiere in Tolfa. Alum is obtained from Alunite, a colorless and odorless mixed salt of aluminum and potassium which, after some cooking and leaching procedures, was used in numerous production activities. The exploitation of Alunite mines, in the Allumiere area in the Tolfa mountains, took place mainly in the open air, tunnel exploitation was introduced only in the last years of the activity, to reduce the costs of the extraction phases. Open-air exploitation has modified the shapes of the territory by opening chasms and producing accumulations of landfill material but the impact that these activities have had has been partially hidden by the coppice forests and beech and chestnut woods.
