no glands. The mucous membrane is thrown into numerous folds, except atthe trigone, where it is more closely connected with the underlyingtissue. The mucous membrane is supported by a submucous layer of fibrousand elastic tissue, containing blood vessels, lymphatics and nerves. What is the arterial supply of the bladder and urethra ? The bladder receives its arterial supply from the superior, middleand inferior vesical, and from branches of the uterine and vaginalarteries. They are all derived from the anterior division of the internal iliac. The urethra is supplied by branches from the vaginal arteries. What is the venous supply of the bladder and urethra ? The veins form a complicated plexus round the neck, sides andbase of the bladder. (Gray.) 38 ESSENTIALS OF GYNECOLOGY. This is called the vesical plexus; it lies external to the niuscnlarcoat and terminates in the internal iliac vein.
