eso está debajo, y álos lados hay dos hornacinas, en que debieron colocarse las es-tatuas de San Pedro y San Pablo. Otras dos puertas comunicancon las naves laterales. La fachada del costado norte del templo es muy distinta:ella por sí misma te da razón de su conjunto y distribución ge-neral en la lámina que ves. Lo que no puedes discernir en tanpequeña escala son ciertos pormenores de que te daré razón, ylo haré copiando mi libro de apuntes. Presenta esta fachadaperfectamente acusados los seis tramos de sus naves laterales ysu crucero. Cada tramo tiene su elegante ventana ojival de tri-ple archivolta, con su crestería y su parteluz. Álzase sobre elcuerpo de las naves menores el gran buque de la nave central,y el del crucero que intesta con él en ángulo recto, y en esa ele-vada mole corresponde una ventana de dos parteluces á cadauna de las del cuerpo inferior. wh ai o oo<¡_J I cíp h < O Cu Cu 348 NAVARRA suben de la techumbre de las naves inferiores y sirven de baseá los arbotantes que van á contrarrestar los empujes de la bóveda de la nave mayor, son de un trazado arrogante y llenanperfectamente su objeto, dado que no se advierten en el interiorni en el exterior del templo movimientos causados por el menordesequilibrio de fuerzas. Es de advertir que esta fachada ha de-bido de perder mucha gentileza y galanura con faltarle los piná-culos y agujas de su antigua decoración; pero no es difícil re-presentarse el hermoso buque sagrado con su arboladura y sujarcia.
