"The Duke is wearing a steel cuirass (a piece of body armour) over his ermine-lined robe, and the Order of the Golden Fleece on its red (faded to pink) ribbon. He succeeded his father as Duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen in 1724. Two years later, he married Caroline von Erbach-Furstenau.
