Summary

[edit]
Description

English: Upper valley of the Erms, seen from the Ruin “Burg Hohenwittlingen”, in the middle between “Seeburg” and Bad Urach, Swabian Alb.The photo shows several properties, typical for the geology of the northern Swabian Alb: The landscape is totally wooded. There are blanc rocks on either ridge of the valley. These are massive biogene limestones of Upper and Middle White Jurassic, which are not divided as bedding plains (see also mud mounds). Diagenetic sediments of harder limestone better resist water erosion. The Erms meanders today as a brook, while a prehistorical, much larger waterway, sedimented travertine and soils of floodplains. Trees, lateral to the valley, indicate two drops of the travertine sediment by 2-5- m.
