English: Louis Claude de Saulces de Freycinet, ca 1804-1810, engraved portrait by Sebastian Leroy, State Library of New South Wales P1/2242 Portrait of Louis de Freycinet within a rectangular engraving on trimmed laid paper, signed in the plate 'Roy del. & sculp.' It is engraved by Sebastien Leroy and contains a Latin inscription below the portrait by Freycinet's friend and fellow navigator, Francois Peron. "Ultima perscrutans ignota que littora mundi, quam cernis placidam faciem, Dux, gessit eamdem. F. Peron amicus et co-navigator" ['The Commander whose calm features you behold, investigated the world's most distant, unknown coasts. F. Peron, friend and fellow navigator'] It is the only published portrait of the explorer. |
