Summary[edit]

Description
English: This is a colored version of the emblem that is used by the Bridel family. The motto is "A corde rosae et spinae" - "From the heart roses and spines".

The emblem is composed of three dak-red roses, blooming with gold with green scapes, which grow out of the dark-red heart. On the top of the shield are the two golden five-pointed stars. Some sources also mention a golden star-shaped crest and two lions that bear the shield. This emblem is known from the XVIII century sources. However, family legends say that it has originated from much earlier times.

There are some controversies concerning the colors. There is an official document stating that Samuel Bridel has obtained a royal rank from the count of saxen-goths along with such an emblem in 1804. The shield color in the appropriate diploma is silver, even though on some stamps it is called "azure". Also sometimes the color of the heart is denoted as "natural".

Family historians note the similarities between the emblem of Bridel and burger emblem of Jayat, which is also a bourgeois family of Moudon. Jayat emblem also has all the same symbols in it - a heart, roses and stars, even though the design is different. Perhaps, such a coincidence could be explained by the fact that the families are actually related to each other. Pierre Bridel was married to Jayat so their son could have used the motives of his mother's emblem to compose his own.

There is also a version that this design was taken from an ancient sculpture that is still preserved in Moudon on the pillar of Notre Dame in Poitiers. However, there are no proofs.

Девиз: A corde rosae et spinae.
