Français : Cette photographie représente une pierre de taille dans laquelle des emblèmes funéraires ont été sculptées et qui a été, lors un second usage, scellée dans un mur.
Lorsque l’ élargissement de la rue de la Ferté a été réalisé en 1891, le mur de l’ ancien cimetière intra-muros de la paroisse Saint-Sauveur fut démoli. Les travaux mirent à jour des vestiges de tombes. Quand le nouveau mur fut construit cette pierre de taille sculptée y fut encastrée pour indiquer, probablement, la présence d’ un ancien cimetière en ce lieu. Les emblèmes funéraires sculptés dans cette pierre de taille représentent la Mort. Le crâne et l’ os allongé sont l’ image de ce qu’ il restera du corps après sa décomposition. La faux est l’ outil tranchant qui coupe et égalise les êtres humains au moment de la mort. Quant au flambeau retourné, la flamme suggère la vie qui va s’ éteindre à cause du manque d’ oxygène dans cette position. Il peut également représenter le corps humain et la flamme, l’ âme qui s’ échappe lors du décès. La Rochelle (15 rue de la Ferté), Charente Maritime, France. |
