Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Combining a large aperture with a long focal length allows the subject to be separated from the background. As usual with large-aperture lenses shot wide open, out-of-focus highlights remain circular in the center of the frame but deteriorate towards an elliptical shape near the edges. This is caused by lens vignetting.

The (somewhat subjective) quality of the rendering of the out-of-focus areas, especially the highlights, of an image, is called bokeh.

The London Eye can barely be made out in the background.
